The Good Shepherd Story

The Redeemer Lutheran Church family, who meet just off Arch Road in Richmond, wanted to reach out to their neighbors in the heart of Midlothian, 12 miles down the road. So during 2006 the dream of planting a new church was born.

During 2007 prayerful plans were formed, and in 2008 14 acres of land were obtained on Old Hundred Road 1.8 miles from Midlothian Turnpike.

Rick Carlton was called to serve as pastor to help form the new church and child development center, and began work in October 2008. The mission was named Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Child Development Center.

The director of the child development center is the second staff member of this new faith community. Michele McTague began work in January of 2009 to develop this Christian, high quality, child development center in a new facility designed and built especially to meet the needs of children and families.

George DeCola joined the Good Shepherd team in March of 2009 as the director of worship arts, forming and leading praise band, technical teams and other expressions of the arts in our worship times.

Construction of our new church and child development facility is now completed and church services began Sunday, September 6th.  The Child Development Center opened on Tuesday, September 8th.
